Path of Exile Item Upgrading
Players can upgrade their weapons and equipment by adding new attachments. They can also increase its stats base or add additional benefits. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.
Items with weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into more robust bases. Items with bases that are strong, such as Titans from eth, have no changes in their stats.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to armors, weapons trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They give you an attribute benefit, or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, retrieved as loot by enemies, or gotten from missions and chests. Some upgrades have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain level before they can be upgraded.
To upgrade an armor, weapon or other item in the game, the player must select it and then click the Upgrade button in the toolbar. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected upgrade stats will be, as well as the necessary material or component needed for the upgrade to take place.
There are three kinds of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades and suffix upgrades. Rerolling
Rerolling refers to the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a crucial aspect of the game and can improve the strength, damage or other attributes. Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade either the original item or another similar item. Recyclable items have a gauge that shows the degree of upgrade. The amount of level that has been filled depends on the rarity and upgrade cost of the item.
Prior to this, some upgrades were given priority affixes which made them more accessible for players to roll. This meant that you'd receive the most crucial stats to your build more often than others. This included stats like armor's total armour, thorns and the control impaired duration stats or the weapons' bonus attack speed and strike chance.
This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes have been removed and all upgrades will have the same chance of rolling for all stats. This can be good or bad, depending on what you're looking to get from your equipment.

To determine if an item is worth upgrading, players should click the Upgrade button on their screen of their character.
